Additional learning support
At Robert Townson Public School, we ensure every student is ready to learn. We support students with disabilities and additional learning needs so they can participate fully in all areas of school life.
We work closely with families to create support plans and adjustments tailored to each child’s individual needs.
Support that fits your child's needs
Some students may need extra support to feel confident and reach their full potential at school.
Additional learning support may include:
- Teachers and support staff working together with families (and students, where appropriate)
- Specialist support for students learning English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)
- Tailored programs for high potential and gifted students to extend their learning
- Small group tutoring to build targeted literacy and numeracy skills
- Regular check-ins to review and update support plans
Adjustments may also include:
In the classroom:
- Accessible classrooms
- Use of assistive technology
- Modified instructional resources
- Personalised plans, additional support, modified content or differentiated tasks
In assessments:
- Extra time to complete tasks
- Simplified language in instructions
- Breaks during assessments
We identify when a student may need additional support by:
- Observing changes in learning or behaviour
- Reviewing assessment results and progress
- Responding to concerns raised by the student/s, parents or carers
